When planning my first big trip from Poland to Australia, I realized that my journey will last about 35 hours! What? How is it even possible? Can I manage it? Many questions, many doubts but the desire to move, to explore, to start a new life was a way stronger than anything else.
So, why don’t you make this journey more pleasant and stop somewhere for few days to discover a new country? Sure, of course I can!
I looked at the map and I already knew! My finger stopped at Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia, even for my family, the idea of traveling alone to a Muslim country sounds crazy.
I had only 2 days in Kuala Lumpur and honestly, no idea where to start. Fortunately, I stumbled upon a great blog about Malaysia runs by polish blogger Zuza, who lives and works there. If you would like to learn more about Malaysian culture, tradition and best destinations, I recommend www.zuinasia.com (only in polish).
So, my completely unplanned trip to Kuala Lumpur turned out to be an unforgettable experience! Check out the best way to experience Kuala Lumpur in 2 days!
Kuala Lumpur is known for it’s delicious food, beautiful weather, affordable cost of living and cultural diversity. It perfectly blends three amazing worlds: Malay, Hindu and Chinese, so I decided to taste a little bit of everything!
ACCOMMODATION
Accommodation in Kuala Lumpur is relatively low when comparing to the neighboring Singapore. You should expect to pay $4 – $8 per night for a bed in a hostel and from $8 to $15 for a private room. However, a night in hostel in the city centre costs around $25 per night. Most hotels and hostels include breakfast and free Wi-Fi.
FOOD
Malaysian food is heavily influenced by Thai, Indonesian, Chinese and Indian cuisines. It is colorful, tasty and addicting! There are the most popular Mamak Restaurants, which offer a wide range of Malaysian and Indian dishes. So, if you are a fan of street food, your daily food expenses should be between $8 and $10. A meal in the city centre in the mid-range restaurant costs between $3 and $6 per person.
WHAT TO SEE?
MALAY CULTURE
The Petronas Twin Towers – the World’s highest twin towers at 452 meters tall!
Menara Kuala Lumpur – the world’s 4th tallest telecommunications tower and a major tourist attraction that offers a breathtaking view of the whole city.
Perdana Lake Gardens and bird park – the world’s largest aviary, where birds flying freely and monkeys jumping from tree to tree. You can walk and explore everything around. I couldn’t resist taking a picture with the famous hornbill – the symbol of Malaysia.
Hornbill Restaurant and Café – located outside of the park. This unique place allows you to eat your dinner in the company of colorful birds. Chicken skewers with peanut sauce are amazing!
HINDU CULTURE
Batu Caves – one of the most popular Hindu temples dedicated to the Lord Murugan. A giant statue measures 42.7 meters! It is considered as the World’s largest statue. And seriously, it looks unbelievably huge. The whole construction cost about 24 millions rupees (around 5 millions euro). It is made of 250 tons of steel bars and 300 liters of gold points transported from neighboring Thailand.
Statue of Lord Hanuman – the Hindu Monkey God is located in the front of the Batu Caves.
Mehndi – you can get a beautiful Indian henna tattoo in the front of the first gate leading to the Batu Caves.
Brickfields – the Little India – the colorful district full of shops with Indian souvenirs and handmade items and restaurants serving delicious Indian food.
CHINESE CULTURE
Thean Hou Temple – the largest Chinese temple in Kuala Lumpur is located at the top of the hill offering a panoramic views of the city. Inside, you can check your horoscope and take a look at prayers. Don’t forget to find your Chinese zodiac sign outside of the temple, next to the entry.
Chinatown – a paradise for shopping and food lovers. Visit the Petaling Street, where the all vendors sell incredible Chinese specials!
I’m visiting in April and can’t wait. The bird park and Batu Caves in particular sound fantastic. Interesting about the transportation. I normally use public transport to get everywhere so this is really helpful.

I looooove the Twin Towers, not only because the architecture is from Argentina (my home) 🇦🇷 but also for their beauty and impressive size.
You shared lots of useful information, but I’d love to see more pictures! Just a suggestion for next time 🙂
Cheers from Buenos Aires!
