8 Awesome Things to Do in Copenhagen, Denmark
Denmark is a third country after Poland and Australia, where I spent most of my life. I admire this country for it’s beautiful architecture and the peacefulness it gives me. The Danish way of life, which perfectly combines the innovation and the modern life with tradition, harmony and family life.
I make sure to visit Copenhagen as often as I can. I like the atmosphere here, it just feels so good to be here.
I would like to share with you a list of my top 8 awesome things to do in Copenhagen. The places that I would rather not miss, when vising Copenhagen.
1. Tivoli Gardens
The World of endless joy, lights and glitters. When coming to Copenhagen, you probably have heard already about the Tivoli Gardens, the Copenhagen’s best amusement park! This place is like a candle that never burns out!
The perfect entertainment spot never disappoints. From crazy rides, fun games, colorful shops, lovely restaurants to green oasis full of flowers. It spreads all the positive vibes from the morning to the evening, when Spring starts and Christmas comes. The decorations change quite often during the year, so you can experience something different in every season. Does it get any better than that?
2. Carlsberg
So hear comes a real talk.
Carlsberg in Copenhagen is a place to get closer to the tradition and history of the most popular beer in the World! The incredible walk through the first Carlsberg Brewery, awaken senses like taste, smell and touch to let you understand better the brewing process and how Carlsberg has developed through the years. Moreover, there is also the biggest collection of unopened beer bottles of every style and brand in the world. I had so much fun, discovering my favorite beers in completely different edition.
Outside, you can find beautiful Carlsberg stables with 8 draught horses!
3. Christiania
Christiania in Copenhagen. The semi-autonomous, hippie free-town is being the most interesting attraction located in the heart of Denmark’s capital. Always colorful and extraordinary.
Best known for its vibrant communities way of life and controversial Cannabis Trade Center. But also it is a green oasis, where lots of Danish like to spend their weekends.
4. Ice Bar
Visiting Denmark during the summer? What about cool yourself down in the icy land of secrets?
I am not kidding 🙂 In the heart of the Copenhagen, you can experience something unique, entering probably the coldest spot in Denmark! The entire bar is made of ice obtained from natural frozen rivers in Northern Scandinavia.
During the 45 minutes session, you drink colorful shots in your icy glass, dance and enjoy the Ice Age wearing a blue winter cape.
Note: The Ice Bar is currently closed for renovation. It will be opening very soon with a new cool design, so check the website to stay updated.
5. Rosenborg Castle and the Kings Gardens
It is my favorite place to relax and need a break from the city noise. I like to come here, lie down on the grass, watch the clouds and enjoy the sun. And it is not just me, who admires this green oasis.
The 400-year-old Rosenborg Castle surrounded by Royal Gardens is popular destination for Danes, especially at weekends. This place allows you to step back in time and imagine being a member of the Royal family. The beautiful possessions are available free of charge for visitors.
6. Nyhavn and a canal tour
Probably, the most popular area among Danes and tourists in Copenhagen!
In 17th century, a harbor frequented by sailors coming to Copenhagen, today a vibrant district lined with colorful restaurants and bars. It seems that Nyhavn never sleeps. The old historic buildings painted in pastels colors create such a pleasant and charming atmosphere here.
Known as the Tattooing Capital of the North in ’50s, Nyhavn still offers the oldest tattoo shops in the city. The most recognizable is the Tattoo Ole, which probably is the oldest tattoo shop in the world.
Nyhavn was also a place, where the famous author Hans Christian Andersen got inspired, living in the colorful houses and writing his most popular tales.
7. Christiansborg Palace
The most impressive one! I stood in the front of the great Christiansborg Palace and just couldn’t get enough of the beauty! This place tells a nearly 1000 year old story and some of the Royal rooms are open to the public, so don’t forget to have a stop here, while visiting Copenhagen!
8. Church of Our Saviour
Copenhagen is beauty itself. It doesn’t need any special adornment. I like to come to the Church of Our Saviour, which offers incredible views over the city. It gives me an opportunity to discover the city from a different perspective.
The baroque church is one of the Copenhagen’s most recognizable buildings. It stands out for it’s serpentine spire with an external winding staircase with golden elements. And I am not going to lie. Every time, it is such a challenge for me, when facing a fear of heights.
Are you willing to take a challenge and climb 400 steps to touch the golden globe and hug the whole city?
