8 Day Trips From Copenhagen
Copenhagen has been an European hot travel destination for years. The vibrant Danish capital is famous for its gorgeous Nordic design, art scene and culture. Copenhagen has lots to offer, but there is a lot more to see in Denmark than its famous capital.
What I absolutely love about Copenhagen is that the countryside is never far away. If you are planning to stay a bit longer in Copenhagen and discover more about Denmark – there are many awesome day trips leaving from capital! It is a great chance to get a feel for life outside Copenhagen or see how Danes live on the beautiful countryside. Here is a list of my top 8 day trips from Copenhagen.
1. Dragør
Dragør is a lovely ”yellow” village located 13km from Copenhagen. It is one of the best-preserved villages in Denmark. When strolling through the narrow cobblestone streets, you can feel the atmosphere of magical and authentic Denmark. Don’t forget to stop in one of the charming restaurants for lunch or coffee located in the front of the old picturesque harbour.
When sun is hot in Denmark, there is also a great spot to cool down! Mormorstranden is a public beach, where you can swim in refreshing clear water and have fun with friends.
2. Helsingør
I absolutely love Helsingør for its historic landmarks, unique scenery and vibrant atmosphere. Without doubt, the best tourist attraction in Helsingør is the glorious renaissance Kronborg castle.
Kronborg castle is probably the most famous Danish castle, not only because it is listed by UNESCO as World Heritage, but also it is home of Shakespeare’s Hamlet.
3. Tisvildeleje
You don’t have to travel all the way to Brighton beach in Australia to admire some of the most colorful houses located just on the beach. Located 45 minute drive from Copenhagen, Tisvildeleje is a laid-back seaside town with golden-sand beach and colorful small houses, forests and hills. This is one of my favorite spots to go on summer days in Denmark.
4. Hillerød
Hillerød is another great destination for a one day trip from Copenhagen. The main attraction is an unrivalled 17th century Frederiksborg Castle located in the city. It is the largest Renaissance castle in Scandinavia. It is surrounded by lake and beautiful gardens, it’s simply breathtaking.
If you are planning to visit Hillerød in one day, remember to arrive in the morning. There are many things to explore inside and outside the castle.
By the way, did you know that Hillerod is surrounded by some of the most extensive forests in Denmark? Rent a bike and visit some of the most beautiful bicycle trails! Stop by the tourist office and get a map of the best cycling routes in North Zealand.
5. Bakken
Founded in 1583, Dyrehavsbakken or simply Bakken is the world’s oldest amusement park. Standing in the shadow of well-known Tivoli, Bakken is often skip by many tourists in Denmark. Packed with endless rides, colorful wooden structures, attractive stalls, restaurants and shops, Bakken is one of the places that make you forget about time.
6. Camp Adventure Park
Where the fun never ends!
Camp Adventure Park is Denmark’s biggest adventure park located in Rønnede – 70km from Copenhagen. It offers unforgettable nature experience from zip wires, treetop adventure courses, nature playgrounds, picnic sites to the most spectacular 45m high spiraling observation tower. Camp Adventure Park is a true paradise for those who enjoy outdoor activities with friends and family.
7. Møns Klint
Unbelievably beautiful piece of living nature.
Møns Klint – the chalk cliffs formed by ancient microscopic marine creatures, when the glaciers were moving to the West. It is one of the most extraordinary places in Denmark, where turquoise-green water meets towering white cliffs. Møns Klint is my favorite place to reconnect with nature and spend some with friends. It is a perfect spot to spread out your picnic blanket, so take your favorite food and enjoy the impressive natural wonder the best possible way.
8. Spodsbjerg Lighthouse
Set in a stunning location overlooking the most beautiful view of the sea, Spodsbjerg Lighthouse a little gem in North Zealand. When following the narrow pathway, you will get to the beautiful cottage built by Knud Rasmussen, a Danish-Greenlandic explorer, also known as father of Eskimology. Today, it is a popular museum, where you can admire his work and travels to Greenland and the American Arctic.
