7 Awesome Places to Photograph in Jaipur – India
The time has arrived!
Today, I am taking you to the capital of the Indian’s largest state of Rajasthan, my favorite Jaipur! Famous for it’s impressive architecture, colorful and vibrant bazaars and local craft.
I spent here over a week roaming around the Pink City, soaking up the city vibes and getting addicted to thali like no one else. I have many stories to share from beautiful Rajasthan, but I wanted to introduce my favorite one, as Jaipur stayed with me. It was a perfect stop, just before my big trip to Himachal Pradesh.
So after exploring Jaipur’s most distinctive landmarks and magical palaces, here I come with a list of 7 best places to visit in Jaipur. I promise that these spots will allow you to take the best photos in the city!
1. Hawa Mahal
Look at my face, I really felt the moment, being a fairy-tale princess, wearing a beautiful Ghagra Choli 🙂
Hawa Mahal also known as the Palace of Winds is one of the most recognizable landmarks in Jaipur. This gorgeous building was constructed in 1799 to allow the royal ladies to watch through windows the local life in the city. The place absolutely exceeded my expectations!
If you want to take great photographs and create the perfect perspective, cross the streets and go upstairs to the local restaurant which provides amazing view of Hawa Mahal and the city.
2. Panna Meena ka Kund
Hidden in Jaipur – Amer road, very close to the Anokhi Museum, Panna Meena ka Kund is Jaipur’s hidden gem. The symmetrical, criss-cross stepwall construction dates to the 16th century, people used to come here to relax, swim and socializing. It was also a popular place on hot summer days, as it stayed cool, protected by tall walls, and filled by refreshing waters.
It is definitely, one of the best places to visit in Jaipur for photography, as many travelers come here to capture this unusual stairs!
3. Galta Ji temple
First of all, I have to admit, I am damn scared of monkeys. Being always a very popular attraction for them, I had some doubts before my trip to the Monkey Temple. Fortunately or unfortunately, the curiosity won!
Built in the 18th century complex contains several temples making this area very attractive.
It is also known for it’s natural springs that are separated in 7 large pools including the holiest Galta Kund.
So, you are probably waiting now for a story about playful monkey? Well, I am still alive and actually, it wasn’t as bad as I thought. However, they are everywhere, sitting on roofs, starts, cliffs and trees, so be careful with your belongings.
The monkey temple is located about 10km away from the city of Jaipur, in little town Khania-Balaji. To get there, order a rickshaw in your hostel or stop one on the street.
4. Surya Mandir
Looking for the best sunset spot in Jaipur? Great because I want to present everyone the Sun Temple! It is a little, climatic, Hindu temple providing a gorgeous view over the city. It is isolated from noisy and crowded streets of Jaipur, so you can find pleasant silent here. Sunsets are truly incredible. Every city gets them, but each one is unique in its own way.
Surya Mandir is located on the way to the Monkey Temple, so you can take a rickshaw and see Galta Ji temple and Surya Mandir at the same time.
5. Amber Fort
Amber Fort is undeniably the most recognizable tourist attraction in Jaipur. It rises proudly at the base of Aravalli mountain ranges and stands in the front of Maota Lake. It perfectly blends Mughal and Hindu styles, creating something truly iconic.
Every year, thousands of people travel here in order to see the magnificent Amber Fort. And, I also was the one, who really waited the time to come. That day, I was lucky to not meet crowds. I got the chance to really feel the atmosphere and go wonder along an alleys. The extensive complex is incredibly big, so I got easily lost few times.
It is located 11 km away from the city of Jaipur.
6. Jal Mahal
The surreal palace seems to be the most peaceful oasis in busy Jaipur. It is also known, as the Water Palace and there is a reason why! Located in the middle of the Man Sagar lake, it really looks like a mysterious floating palace on the water. Moreover, the unusual construction seems to have only 1 story structure, however there are 4 more floors hidden under the water!
Unfortunately, due to security reasons, tourists cannot get into the Jal Mahal. However, you can still catch some good photos from the land!
7. Nahargarh Fort
Nahargarh Fort is one of my favorite!
Located high on the Aravali Hills, it provides incredible views over the city. It was built in 1734 in order to secure the town, as the height allowed to see everything clearly. Have you ever watched the Rang De Basanti movie? Here in 2016, some of the most memorable scenes have been shot here.
