10 Reasons Why You Should Travel to India
Planning to travel to India? Be ready to be shocked, be ready for hard times, be ready to step out of your comfort zone, but at the end of the trip, you will agree with me – India changes people forever.
All right, it was a hard introduction, but you know me, I like it đ
India filled my heart with joy, nourished me with all the healthy food, made me feel alive, let me get my full power back and taught me how to be a better version of myself.
And I agree, India is not for everyone and I also thought, it’s not for me. However, once I step on this land, I couldn’t get enough. Came back after 2 months again :).
Be ready to be mesmerized by this wonderful land and culture. Here is a list of 10 reasons why you should travel to India.
1. Contrast
I like to call India a land of contrasts.
From gorgeous beaches on the West coast to the snow covered mountain peaks of the Himalayas.
A country of diversity, where people speak different languages, follow different religious, live in different climates, eat different food. However, there is something important that brings Indians together. They live according true values such as respect, tolerance, “give and take” and non-violence.
2. The people
There is a believing in India Athithi Devo Bhava, which literally means âthe guest is Godâ.
I will never forget a situation in the train, when after placing my baggage on the floor and reaching my sit, I realized that I travel in the company of Indian family. I had not only a great time, talking and smiling to each other, but I also got a dinner, then a cup of milk, then sweets, and a wet napkin to clean my face.
Indians greet you with a smile. Whenever they see a foreigner, they come closer and usually chat, asking about different things.
The sense of hospitality comes with Indian culture itself.
And, I have to stand up here against all the gossips – that India is one of the most dangerous places for solo women travelers. Being smart on the way is the key, when you travel to India or any other country. Generalizing is never fair, as unpleasant experience or dangerous situations can meet you everywhere. So be open-minded and go deep into culture and at the same time, be a responsible and smart badass.
3. Food and spices
One of the reasons why you should travel to India is Indian food! It is pretty famous for its flavor, unique taste and different regional cuisines.
I am in love with all the spice mixtures, herbs, tropical fruits and vegetables in India. The most recognizable dishes are:
-
thali
-
samosa
-
chicken tikka masala
-
tandoori chicken
-
palak paneer – spinach and cheese, my favorite one!
-
dosa
-
modak
-
yoghurt raitas
Another reason why I admire Indian food is diversity. You will not find the same dish in the North and in the South of India. Indeed, every state has its own specials and cooking methods. And, I absolutely love this extensive menu all across India.
4. No language barrier
India is divided by 222 constitutional languages, and more than 1,600 languages and local dialects. However, it is considered as the world’s second largest English speaking country. There is no problem to communicate with residents, especially in big, developed cities in India.
5. Spiritual Land
Among the whole disorganization and chaos on the streets, people live in harmony and peace. And, this is something deeply-rooted, something that I canât describe in words, but I was learning it every day. Living a harmonious life in the midst of movement and chaos is challenging. But after all, is there actually something, that can disturb your inner peace?
Spirituality is a way of living in India. And the words live in harmony with nature become more meaningful.
6. Festivals
India hosts one of the most famous festivals in the World and I am pretty sure, you know some of them! The Holi Festival is probably the most recognizable one. It is basically a celebration for upcoming Spring, but also the victory of good over evil. An absolute bomb of colors, energy and good vibes. People travel to India to spend the day throwing colored powder at each other, laughing and dancing all day long. This year will be celebrated on March 20th and 21st.
Another very interesting, but still less known festival in India is Diwali, the Festival of Lights. It is one of the biggest religious festivals in India. Celebrating Diwali means decking your house in lights and colors, spending time with loved ones, having delicious food and just simply enjoying this amazing time together.
7. Yoga and Ayurveda
Many tourists travel to India to experience something truly spiritual. My journey to India was a life changing experience. I came here not only for a pure adventure but also to deepen my understanding about yoga and Ayurvedic medicine.
Ayurveda is one of the worldâs oldest and most powerful mind-body medical systems. I love to call it, a science of life. Ayurvedic medicine is based on a variety of products and practices, which help people to stay healthy, strong and lively. I also spend a month in Rishikesh, practicing yoga and meditation. After all, I became a vegetarian and started to live more harmonious life.

India is known for being one of the most affordable destinations to visit in the World. From public transport, accommodation, food to attractions and souvenirs, India provides unforgettable experiences with the guaranteed lowest price. Meals in local restaurants start from $2 for thali (typical Indian meal made up with different type of dishes served with chapati and a rice, on one big metal platter). A yoga class starts from few dollars per session, as well as accommodation in India.

9. Traditions and Customs
Travel to India is popular among tourists because of the interesting traditions and Customs of the land.
India is a country full of life and colors with diverse traditions and cultures. From breathtaking Himachal Pradesh, vibrant Rajasthan, mysterious Nagaland to peaceful Kerala. In my experience, India is one of the most culturally blessed country in the World. Here, traditions and rituals are the most important aspects in Indians daily life.
10. Architecture
When thinking about the reasons why you should travel to India, I couldn’t forget about the Indian stunning architecture. One of the finest examples of Mughal architecture is Taj Mahal, located in Agra, Uttar Pradesh state. Well-known for its harmonious proportions, this mausoleum complex blends Indian, Islamic and Persian styles. In 1983, it was designated as UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I also can recommend the Pink City and Amber Fort in Jaipur, the Golden Temple in Amritsar, the Blue City in Jodhpur and numerous Hindu temples all across India.
At the end, the following quote by Mark Twain:
So far as I am able to judge, nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his rounds. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked.
