Boca de Camarioca is a small fishing village in the province of Matanzas. This is a place to live in the authentic Cuban neighborhood and to hang out with locals. If you prefer low-key places rather than staying in popular tourist attractions, Boca de Camarioca is for you.
Boca de Camarioca is all about chill and relax.
There is a small white sand beach with crystal blue water, where you can spend lazy days, enjoying the sun and . You can also spot a little peninsula which leads to the volcanic stones.
Feel the morning breeze and watch fishermen coming back from the Ocean. In the evening, watch the sun go down on the beach. Many locals park cars and motorbikes to get the best view of the stunning sunset.
AROUND BOCA DE CAMARIOCA
The laid-back, small fishing village is a perfect place to just recharge your batteries and stay away from the crowd. However, if you would like to explore surroundings, I recommend to visit Playa Coral. It is a very popular spot for snorkeling and diving, located just 10 km away from Boca de Camarioca. If you have your own snorkeling equipment, you can easily access the water from the small beach, set on the west side of the main entry. The coast has a nice collection of corals and a wide variety of fishes. The visibility is pretty good. After snorkeling, you can relax under the shadow of umbrellas located on the beach and get a delicious piña colada served inside the coconut.
If you prefer to rent a full equipment and a guide, visit the Fauna and Flora Reserve. The entry costs $10 and includes an entry to the government protected section of Playa Coral, a guide and all equipment. If you don’t have your snorkeling mask with you, but you want to do snorkeling by your own, you can easily rent a gear in the Laguna de Maya. The entrance costs $2.
Another worth visit attraction is the Saturn Cave that has a natural pool. The enormous stalagmite cave is 12 km length and 22 m depth. The best part is that you can do snorkeling and diving there! Remember to arrive to the cave early in the morning, because the natural gem attracts lots of visitors.
WHERE TO STAY IN BOCA DE CAMARIOCA
There are plenty of casas de particulares located next to the Camarioca river and along the coast. I would like to recommend one friendly and welcoming Cuban family, which made my stay even more pleasant and relaxed. The place is named Hostal Lourdes Leo and you can ask locals about the way. The lovely lady will explain you everything about Boca de Camarioca and surroundings. She has a notebook with all information and attractions around. The casa is located around 5 min away from the beach.
HOW TO GET TO BOCA DE CAMARIOCA
Boca de Camarioca is located about 30min drive from Varadero. You can easily get there by local bus or taxi colectivo. If you are in Havana, take a Viazul bus, which is the most popular on this route. The bus runs 4 times per day and costs $10.

This sounds like such a lovely place! Snorkeling then relaxing on a beach drinking a pina colada out of coconut sounds perfect. The Saturn Cave sounds really neat, too. I hope to make it to Cuba someday!
