Solo travel gives you an ability to adapt to a new environment and enjoy the special moment on your own. It is truly one of the best ways to discover the world. I always aim to spread the positive vibes for solo adventurers, to give them an inspiration and motivate them to explore the World.
As a solo female traveler, I discovered places which indeed are my favorite to travel alone. I would like to share with you my list of 10 best destinations to travel solo based on convenient for travelers, safety concerns, friendliness, possibility to meeting new people, attractions and environment.
1. Lisbon, Portugal
When it comes to Lisbon and solo female traveler, there is not better combination! The city is a perfect place to enjoy it on your own and wander between the ancient streets of Lisbon’s neighborhood. Take a ride on a Lisbon old tram along the cobbled alleyways and explore city’s street art. The charismatic city has so many stories to tell, attraction to offfer and it is blessed with the glorious year-round climate. There is accessible and affordable public transport that makes traveling around the city much easier!
Oh, and one more important thing! Lisbon is famous for its world’s finest custard tarts which are the best in the World!
2. Pai, Thailand
This tiny town up in the mountains, located in Northern Thailand is a very popular backpacking destination. To reach Pai, you have to book a bus that goes up the hill and passes 762 curves. The road is as challenging as it sounds. At the top, there is a pleasant town full of charming cafes and restaurants serving organic food. I really recommend to stay in Pai Village located along the banks of Pai River, where you can truly enjoy the nature and sleep in rustic wooden cottages. In the daytime, explore the countryside by scooter, find hidden waterfalls, swim in natural hot springs and walk across the rice fields. This is a place to relax!
3. Dubrovnik, Croatia
Known as a Pearl of the Adriatic, Dubrovnik has become a very popular destination in Europe. It is a city to wander and get lost between the ancient stone walls. I admire the specific smell of herbs when you walking through the Old Town and the view of clothes drying at very sunny day. Dubrovnik has a very special atmosphere and climate. Discover the little galleries with typical Croatian souvenirs, artisan shops and local restaurants. In the evening, enjoy the oceanfront of medieval city. This place is known for a low crime rate and is very convenient for solo travelers.
4. Gili Islands, Indonesia
The Gili Islands are an archipelago of three small islands Gili Trawangan, Gili Air, and Gili Meno located near Lombok in Indonesia. The area became a very popular spot for solo travelers who enjoy colorful underwater world, white sand beaches and chilling vibes. Snorkeling with turtles, scuba diving and the most amazing sunsets in the World. Gili Islands are all about meeting new people, soak up the sun and spread the good vibes!
5. Krakow, Poland
Today, Krakow became a international city visited by many travelers from around the World. It is located in the Southern Poland, and it is known as the country’s most beautiful city. Krakow basks in glory of its long history and its reputation of the cultural capital of Poland. The city is full of charming cafes, taverns and unique bars with brilliant and affordable food. The main square is one of the largest in Europe. You will find there famous Cloth Hall, horse carriages, amazing architecture and abundance of Polish history. The city is inhabited by over 200.000 polish and international students, which makes the atmosphere around very vibrant and cheerful. Krakow has been named the second safest Polish city.
6. Copenhagen, Denmark
One of the happiest countries in the World and my favorite for a solo adventurer. I love Copenhagen during the winter, when the lights are quietly burning at 17th-century houses, and you can feel the smell of sugar roasted nuts, and ,,gløgg” in the air. Copenhagen is absolutely a green city of environmentally-friendly transport and eco, organic restaurants. In addition, everything in Denmark is about ,,Hygge”. A simple word, and likely the way of life, which describes the happiness in simplicity and enjoyment of a good moment.
So go to Copenhagen and take your own moment of Hygge!
7. Surfers Paradise, Australia
As the name says – Surfers Paradise is all about good waves! The city is set on the miles long white sand beach in Queensland in eastern Australia. Surfers Paradise attracts lots of travelers from all around the World. It is known for a great atmosphere and good vibes. The main streets is full of beach side shops, dinning restaurants and cool cafes. During the day, there is a Surfers Paradise Beachfront Market, with some local products and artisans crafts. You can also visit one of the popular theme parks like Sea World, Movie World or bungee jumping.
And remember to surf, surf and surf!
8. Vieques, Puerto Rico
Vieques is a Carribean island located about 13 km away from Puerto Rico. It is also known as ”Isla Nina” which means ”Little Girl Island”. The small paradise measures only 34 km long and 6,5 km wide and much of the land is embraced by nature. The whole area looks like untouched by modern civilisation. This makes it a special place which could be a great escape from the chaotic city. Some travelers visit Vieques for the nature and beaches. Some come to see the brightest bioluminescent bay in the World. And some of them want to see the herds of horses living together on the small island.
9. Ubud, Bali
Ubud is the spiritual capital of Bali set along the rice terraces, Hindu temples and shrines. The name in Balinese means ”medicine”. This is a perfect place to disconnect from the World, relax and clear body and mind. Set in stunning scenery, rich in culture city is a perfect place to heal the soul. In the morning, you should visit different art galleries and workshops with incredible Balinese art. Try yoga, relief your stress, spent time only with yourself. Exactly, like in the popular movie ”Eat Pray Love”.
10. Dublin, Ireland
The country domiciled by Vikings at the end of 8 century. Ireland attracts people from all over the World because of the beauty of Nature, an ancient side, stunning landscapes and friendly people. Ireland is a perfect place for solo female traveler. Meeting people has never been easier like here. People will welcome you as a good friend. Grab a Guinness in one of the Irish pubs, listen a typical Celtic music and enjoy the local culture.
